Whee I love this guy! X3 This is my first real dragon that I've drawn, and it's not bad considering dragons are really hard for me. Though I wish I did his left foot better, but I had to fix it last minute since I drew the fifth toe on the outside when it shouldn't have been, so it looks a bit off. I'm really proud of the wings and the lineart manipulation, I focused on those espeically. By the way, I am starting to focus on the background more, but this is the offical background, not because of lack of effort, but because that's what I wanted it to be. This is actually a t-shirt design for my graphic arts class(hooray I get to wear it as a t-shirt! ) and I wanted the focus to be on the dragon mainly, and a simple background seemed to compliment him. ^^ Oh yeah, last thing, the kanji he's pearched upon is the kanji: Ryuu, which means dragon. Let's hear it for the Year of the Dragon!
Tools used: Mechanical Pencil, Sakura Micron Pens, Photoshop CS
[edit] Special Brushes: Nature Textures PS Brushes by redheadstock used on all of the dragon.[/edit]
Time taken: Over a span of a week and a half, I estimate about 10+ hours.(the pencil drawing took most of that time >>; )
What's up next?: I just thought of some really cute KH fanart which I'm gonna stick too! Then maybe some Tails fanart, my one piece gotta some notice recently which has made me very happy. Thanks to all who faved it!
Well, that's better than what I could've drawn... though I've never tried drawing a dragon before... Anyways... this is great! I love the whole idea of the dragon standing on kanji and the colors are just plain awesome! I also love the markings on the dragon; very nifty! And this picture is PERFECT for a shirt!!! Though I would probably take out the background... but I have a thing about square images on shirts... maybe it's because my shirts turned out that way. XP Now I'm thinking I should make a snake... X3 I'm not particularly fond of them, but my year is of the snake! ^^ That's it, you've inspired me! ^_________^ (Just curious... how did you color the dragon that way? It looks awesome! ^^)
Btw, I should have a new piece up soon! I drew a picture of the Inu no Taishou (Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru's dad) and I'm going to attempt to color it in Illustrator. It looks pretty good at the moment! ^_^
I'm kinda surpurised that it came out that well myself. I draw dragons and all types of creatures waaay too little which makes me saddly inexperience at 'em. -_- Thanks so much for the love, it's very appreciated! I'll admit, the background it a bit....iffy. The thing is though, my teacher is putting our designs on a white shirt, and I'm deadly allergic to white backgrounds: too bright and blah. So I put a dark background behind the dragon so it came out better, I think he would've looked very washed out on a white background. Plus, it was 1:00 am on a school night that I stayed up to finish this, so I just wanted to go to bed. I could go back and redo it, but I'm happy with how it came out actually. You should do a snake on top of or near the snake kanji, that'd be awesome! X3 It's a lot of fun to do zodiac art! And I'm glad that I inspired you, all artists should inspire each other. For coloring, I started out coloring in all of the flat colors, like you would for cell style shading. And then I used the dodge and burn technique, and blurred the effect in with the flat color so it blended in better. I also used the nature brushes that I mentioned too. There were a bunch of scale brushes in teh set, so I used dodge and burn tools with them and just experimented. Whee, Ino no Taishou, I'd love to see your pic of him! I hope you post it soon, ttyl!
In my experience of being an artist, I've noticed that the first time usually comes out the best... it doesn't really make sense... maybe it's because when you do it the first time, you pay attention to details more? *shrugs* That's true... he probably would be washed out by the white. Hmm... maybe you can make another shirt one day with like heather grey or something? I can send you some print on sheets for shirts if you want! ^.^ Speaking of shirts, I have one... I'm thinking of putting Inu no Taishou on it once I get done with him. ^.^ Actually I have two shirts... but that's besides the point. Well, first I'd need to find the kanji for snake. ^.^ Once I do that I can plan out the art. I'm glad that you inspired me also! You've also reboosted my motivation too! I've been working on my Inuyasha KiSS for a few weeks now and I'm hoping to get it done... I'm not sure if I'll be able to do that this time, but I'll try. ^.^ So far I have Sango, Miroku (though I still need to do his shoes), Inuyasha, Kagome, Sesshoumaru, and Ayame (who is almost done) completed... though I think I'm going to at least reshade everyone except Sango and Ayame... ^.^ I posted a picture of Sango if you're interested in seeing what it looks like! (They all have the same body btw) I see... well great job on your shading! It looks great! ^.^ I think I'm going to shade Inu no Taishou (or Touga... I love that name! XD) much like the keychains I've seen online. ^.^
I agree with that, you always pay more attention to details the first time. Especially with character designing the first time, but they always change for me in some way best I always tend to use the first pic to reference the next few. I probably will make another shirt cause uhhhh........he came out really crappy on the shirt. *falls over* He's backwards unfortunately, since I didn't know printing him on the transfer paper would flip him, tch, and he's pretty blurry since our school is dumb and instead of having 1 type of computer, we have macs and pcs so everything gets screwed up and my cd wouldn't work, and they blocked DA and Photobucket so I had to put it on sheezy art and copy it and I couldn't get a good full view from sheezy art so I tried the best I could in photoshop to fix it but it still came out blurry. Wagh what a mouthful, anyways: thank you for the offer, but I bought some iron on transfers, I just haven't tried them yet or found anything useful to put on them. You should put Inu-papa on it! He'd be wicked cool, and there's not a lot of shirts of him too! ^.^ If you google it you'll find a page right away, probably the same one I found. If you're having trouble I can give you the liink to the page, but it shouldn't be too hard to find. Whoo! Inuyasha KiSS! They all look so cute as KiSS dolls! *hugs them* I'll definitely check out Sango, sorry btw for being sooooo slow for responding! I had a crud load of stuff to do at the end of school: calc exam, final project/essay jigger for Economics, and a Final Debate in Government. But now I'm all done with that stuff and I just have the last day of school on Monday.....*sniffles* It just hit me that I'm leaving! T_T Kinda scared actually, and I'm gonna miss people, not a lot of people at my school, but enough to make me sad. Oh and we had Senior Skip Day today! We were chucking water balloons in the parking lot and we had a food fight in the Cafeteria too! Boy were the pissed about the food fight, but they didn't do crap besides saying how "disappointed and ashamed and embarrassed" they were, but they've always felt that way about our class. Besides, they took away the underclassmen to throw water balloons at! *pout* Liars, they said they were gonna be there, but I think we're gonna do the same thing on Monday, bwa ha! Thanks, I'm quite proud of my shading this time. ^^ Good luck with Inu-papa!!!
*blushes* Aw thank you so much! I'm not that great a dragons, but it wasn't too bad for a first attempt. If you google "dragon" under images you can get a lot of good references, that's what I did to help me out with this one. ^^ Hopefully I can one day draw a more stylish dragon. And thank you for the fav., that made my day!
